Nationwide blackouts hit Ukraine as Russian strikes escalate
Ukraine’s energy infrastructure came under continued attack on Christmas night, as Russia carried out further strikes that disrupted electricity supplies in several regions across the country.
Consumers in the Chernihiv, Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, and Odesa regions were partially left without power as a result of the attacks. Energy workers are operating around the clock to restore electricity and heat supplies to affected areas, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy.
According to the Ministry, hourly power outage schedules and capacity restrictions for businesses have been introduced nationwide in response to the damage.
The government has implemented a series of measures aimed at stabilizing the energy system, including tighter oversight of the electricity and heat sectors, as well as the completion of a tender for the construction of new electricity-generating capacities.
