NATO confirms monitoring of Russia’s nuclear military exercises
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has stated that the North Atlantic Alliance is closely monitoring Russia’s nuclear forces exercises, while refraining from public commentary.
“When it comes to these exercises, of course, we follow them, we monitor what is happening, and that is it,” Rutte said at a press conference in Brussels ahead of a meeting of NATO foreign ministers scheduled to take place in Sweden on May 21–22.
According to earlier reports, Russian armed forces would conduct exercises from May 19 to 21 simulating the deployment of nuclear forces in response to a potential threat of aggression.
The drills involve the Strategic Missile Forces, the Pacific Fleet, the Northern Fleet, the long-range aviation command, as well as elements of the Leningrad and Central military districts.
