NATO confirms secretary’s upcoming visit to Washington
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte is set to arrive in Washington, DC on April 24 for a two-day official visit.
The itinerary has been confirmed by the NATO press service on April 23, as Caliber.Az reports. The statement indicates that Rutte is scheduled to meet the US Secretary of State, Mr. Marco Rubio, the Secretary of Defence, Pete Hegseth, and the National Security Advisor, Mike Waltz.
US Secretary Rubio has travelled to the alliance's headquarters in Brussels in the beginning of April, where he met the Secretary General while attending his first NATO foreign ministerial meeting.
The Washington meeting takes place against the backdrop of a packed US foreign policy agenda, which in recent weeks has included several high-level diplomatic engagements — notably with representatives from the Iranian government for negotiations on Tehran's nuclear program and the existing sanctions regime as well as several encounters with Russian officials involved in efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
