Iran optimistic about reaching favourable deal with US on nuclear programme
Spokesperson for the Iranian government Fatemeh Mohajerani has expressed optimism that a favourable deal with the US over Iran's nuclear programme could be achieved in the near future.
However, she stressed that it is crucial for Iran to protect its national interests throughout the ongoing negotiations, Caliber.Az reports via Iranian media.
Speaking at a press conference, Mohajerani emphasised Iran's measured approach to the talks.
“We are not in a rush, but we are not sabotaging the process either. We believe that a good deal with the United States, one that takes Iran's national interests into account, is achievable in the near future,” she said.
Mohajerani noted that the recent rounds of negotiations held in Oman and Rome between Iranian and US officials had been constructive and productive.
On April 19, the second round of indirect negotiations between Iran and the US, facilitated by Oman, took place in Rome to address the ongoing concerns surrounding Tehran's nuclear programme. The US delegation was led by Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, while the Iranian side was represented by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. Araghchi said that the parties reached a significant mutual understanding on a number of key issues. The next meeting between Araqchi and Witkoff is scheduled for April 26, following technical-level consultations set for April 23.
