NATO ships intercept Russian vessel near Sweden
17 September 2025 09:32
A Russian fishing vessel entered the Øresund Strait near Sweden, prompting a security operation involving the Swedish Coast Guard and two NATO ships from Denmark and the United Kingdom, Postimees reports.
The vessel first experienced engine trouble in Swedish territorial waters on Saturday, September 13, before drifting toward Denmark. It also suffered a power outage onboard.
The ship, Mechanic Stepanov, was launched in 2025.
Danish and British naval vessels escorted the Russian ship. Denmark’s Navy confirmed the operation to TV2 but did not provide further details.
