NATO to integrate Polish wind farm into its monitoring network
The Polish offshore wind farm Baltic Power in the Baltic Sea will be fitted with surveillance equipment as part of its integration into NATO’s monitoring system.
The coastal wind farm, consisting of 76 turbines and located approximately 200 km from Russia’s Kaliningrad region, will be equipped with specialised sensors and radars following a security assessment conducted by the Polish Ministry of Defence, Caliber.Az reports, citing Euractiv.
The Polish state secretary for EU affairs, Ignacy Niemczycki, told Euractiv on a windy boat ride out to the site: "We are looking at infrastructure differently than we were one year ago."
“We view infrastructure differently than we did a year ago,” said Ignacy Niemczycki, Poland’s Deputy Secretary of State for EU Affairs, in an interview with Euractiv.
The report notes that NATO began considering the integration of offshore wind farms into its surveillance systems after the 2022 sabotage of the Nord Stream pipelines and the damage to cables on the Baltic Sea floor in 2024.
