Netanyahu announces expansion of buffer zone in southern Lebanon
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Israel is expanding its security zone in southern Lebanon, describing the move as part of efforts to reduce threats to its territory and population.
In a post on the X platform, cited by Caliber.Az, Netanyahu said the expansion is aimed specifically at countering the risk posed by anti-tank weapons targeting Israeli communities and infrastructure.
“We are expanding this security zone to eliminate the threat of anti-tank weapons to our communities and our territory. We are simply creating a larger buffer zone. Now we face the question of dismantling Hezbollah. This is also linked to the broader campaign against Iran, which, contrary to media reports, is still ongoing at full pace,” the statement said.
His remarks connect the move in southern Lebanon to Israel’s wider military strategy, including ongoing operations involving Iran, which he said continue despite reports suggesting otherwise.
