Netherlands has field capable of replacing Russian gas
There is a gas field in the Netherlands with reserves of $1 trillion, which will be enough to replace supplies from Russia.
Under the Netherlands lie the largest natural gas reserves in Europe with a total value of approximately $1 trillion. We are talking about the Groningen gas field, the volumes of which are enough to replace most of the fuel that came to Europe from Russia through Germany this winter, Bloomberg reports.
According to the agency, since 1963 the field has been the main source of gas for Europe. Now there is about 450 billion cubic meters of gas there. According to Shell's calculations, it is now possible to extract 50 billion cubic meters of gas per year from this field, which is comparable to Russia's supplies through Germany last year in the amount of 46 billion cubic meters.
Bloomberg pointed out that this field continues to be preserved due to earthquakes that were caused by drilling. They affected about a third of the homes of local residents, who strongly oppose the continuation of drilling. However, the gas shortage in Europe may force the Netherlands to take a radical step. In addition, the European Union is also in favour of revising the position on the field.
