New visa system for Azerbaijanis travelling to Montenegro takes effect
Azerbaijani citizens seeking to travel to Montenegro can submit their visa applications through the office of the Montenegrin Embassy in Türkiye, which operates in Baku, Montenegro’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed in response to an inquiry from local media.
The ministry recalled that a visa regime for Azerbaijani citizens entering Montenegro came into force on January 15, 2026. The move is linked to Montenegro’s aspirations to join the European Union.
Officials also noted that cooperation with VFS Global is expected to expand in the future. Under these plans, the company’s visa centres in Azerbaijan will begin accepting applications for Montenegrin visas.
Travellers to Montenegro can apply for two categories of visas.
A short-term Type C visa is issued for transit or brief stays in the country, allowing residence for up to 90 days within a 180-day period.
A long-term Type D visa is intended for stays exceeding 90 days but not longer than six months from the date of initial entry.
According to Montenegro’s Foreign Ministry, applications for Type C visas must be submitted at least 15 days before the planned trip, while Type D visa applications must be filed no later than 60 days in advance.
Visa decisions are typically made within 10 days of submitting the required documents. However, if additional review is necessary, the processing period may be extended to 30 days. In cases where extra documentation is requested, the review period can be prolonged for up to 60 days.
