Nighttime Russian assault on Ukraine's Odesa results in death, injuries and fires
The Russian Federation has once again launched an attack on Ukraine’s Odessa region, resulting in casualties and damage to civilian infrastructure.
According to the State Emergency Service, cited by Ukrainian media, one woman and three other individuals were injured during the strike.
The attack also caused a fire in five retail kiosks, which was quickly extinguished by firefighters. In addition, several buildings were damaged, including a hotel, offices of Ukrposhta and Ukrtelecom, a cultural centre, an administrative services centre, as well as multiple cars.
The incident follows an alert issued yesterday evening in Odesa and the surrounding areas due to the threat of Shahed drones and ballistic missiles. Odesa’s mayor reported explosions in the city at that time but did not provide further details.
Since the evening of September 22, the Russian army has deployed groups of Shahed strike drones from multiple directions across Ukraine, prompting alerts in several regions.
In addition to Odesa, critical infrastructure in Chernihiv has been attacked, while Zaporizhzhia faced renewed strikes involving both aerial bombs and drones. Civilian residential areas were damaged in Zaporizhzhia, and one person was killed.
Nighttime shelling also impacted Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukraine Railways) infrastructure, causing delays for several trains across the country.
