North Korea arrests three people after warship launch mishap
North Korean authorities have arrested three employees following an accident during the launch of a 5,000-ton destroyer at the Chongjin Shipyard.
The incident, which occurred during a formal launch ceremony attended by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, resulted in damage to the newly constructed warship, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Although the extent of the damage has not been fully disclosed, officials say the vessel avoided further structural harm and that restoration work is currently underway. An investigative team, operating under the direction of the Central Military Commission, identified key personnel allegedly responsible for the mishap.
Kim Jong-un, reportedly present at the launch, is said to have expressed strong dissatisfaction with the failure. According to state sources, disciplinary measures are expected to go beyond the arrested employees and will include sanctions against party officials linked to the project.
