Norway enters NATO tactical group along Russia’s frontier
Norway’s Defence Minister Tore O Sandvik has announced that Norway officially confirmed its participation in the Sweden-led multinational NATO Enhanced Forward Presence tactical group, which will be stationed in Finland’s Lapland region.
This initiative, previously endorsed by NATO defence ministers, is designed to enhance the alliance’s military presence in northern Finland, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
The Forward Land Forces (FLF) tactical group will operate under Swedish command, with NATO’s regional land command headquarters established in Mikkeli, a city located near the Russian border.
“We have allocated resources to participate in the northern integration efforts, but at this stage, there are no specific details to share about the FLF other than that we are involved,” Sandvik said.
He also noted that Norway’s exact role and contributions to the new force have yet to be finalised.
Sweden and several other NATO countries have been discussing troop deployments to support future NATO forces in Finland during the NATO summit held in The Hague.
