Norway to spend nearly $90 million to produce weapons for Ukraine
The Norwegian government has announced it will allocate 967 million kroner (approximately $90 million) to expand arms production, both for Ukraine's defence and Norway’s own military needs.
This decision was outlined in a statement released by the Norwegian Ministry of Defence, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
"The security situation has created a significant and urgent need within the country and among our allies for logistical resources to support Ukraine's defence," said Norwegian Defense Minister.
Bjørn Arild Gram. He added that the newly unveiled roadmap is a comprehensive plan aimed at increasing the production capacity of Norway's defence industry.
This marks the first time Norway has laid out a plan to expand its military-industrial complex. According to the Ministry of Defense, the funds will be directed toward small and medium-sized companies that supply the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the establishment of a new production line for rocket engines at Nammo, and the increased production of hexamine, a key ingredient in explosives manufacturing.
In addition, there will be an evaluation of the feasibility of constructing a new explosives production facility in Norway. These efforts underscore Norway’s commitment to bolstering its defence capabilities while supporting Ukraine amid ongoing security challenges in the region.
