NYT: Trump pressed Denmark over Greenland even before inauguration
Five days before his inauguration, on January 20, US President Donald Trump spoke to Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen of Denmark, insisting that the United States take over Greenland.
According to a report by the New York Times, the conversation lasted about 45 minutes. Even before taking office, on January 7, Trump for the first time spoke of the possibility of using military force to annex Greenland to the United States. This issue sparked tense discussions and became the reason for the subsequent call with the Danish prime minister.
In an interview with The New York Times, Frederiksen said that the US president “knows how to speak very clearly,” adding that she herself also tries to express her thoughts clearly. However, she refused to disclose details of the conversation, stating: “A phone call between two colleagues should remain a phone call between two colleagues.”
