Oman-Iran de-escalation talks at critical stage, Qatar says

Consultations between Oman and Iran aimed at reducing regional tensions have reached a critical stage, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Majed Mohammed Al-Ansari said.

Speaking at a briefing, Al-Ansari said Qatar had noted what he described as positive signals from both Tehran and Muscat in recent days and was awaiting the outcome of the talks, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.

“Over the past couple of days, we have heard positive statements from both capitals and are eagerly awaiting [the results],” he said.

The Qatari diplomat said Doha did not want negotiations to be delayed and called for the immediate restoration of freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international law.

Al Ansari also said Qatar had no information indicating that the United States and Iran were discussing compensation payments as part of their ongoing consultations.
