Oman rules out transit fees for ships passing through Strait of Hormuz
Oman’s Transport Minister has clarified that the country will not impose fees on vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, following reports that Iran and Oman might charge ships during the ongoing ceasefire period.
The minister emphasized that Oman has existing agreements that explicitly prohibit levying charges on vessels passing through the strategically vital waterway, Iran International reports.
Under the two-week ceasefire arrangement, a regional official had indicated that both Iran and Oman could potentially charge fees for passage, with Iran reportedly intending to use any collected funds for reconstruction efforts. Historically, however, the Strait of Hormuz has been treated as an international waterway, free from transit fees.
