Orban blames naïve politicians, arms firms, bankers for prolonging Ukraine war
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated that only naïve politicians, arms manufacturers, and bankers are interested in prolonging the conflict in Ukraine.
He wrote on his X account that only politicians who believe a nuclear power can be defeated on the battlefield, arms manufacturers profiting from endless wars, and bankers who have bet on Russia’s military defeat want the conflict in Ukraine to continue, Caliber.Az reports.
“The people of Europe deserve better. Europe needs peace,” Orban wrote.
The Hungarian PM has repeatedly argued that the Ukraine war cannot be won militarily and pushed for immediate ceasefire talks and diplomatic negotiations rather than continued battle, urging a shift away from large-scale EU military aid.
He has criticised Western Europe and EU leadership for prolonging the conflict, claiming sanctions haven’t worked and framing continued military backing as counterproductive, a stance that diverges from most EU member states.
Orban opposes Ukraine’s accession to the European Union, arguing it would pull the bloc deeper into war, and instead promotes alternative security arrangements with both East and West.
