Over 1,600 buildings in Kyiv remain without heating after Russian attack
As of today, January 25, residents of more than 1,600 apartment buildings in Kyiv remain without heating after the Russian overnight attack, Mayor of the Ukrainian capital Vitali Klitschko wrote on his Telegram channel.
He noted that authorities had managed to restore heat to some buildings after damage to critical infrastructure facilities, Caliber.Az cites the mayor's post.
“Currently, 1,676 high-rise buildings in Kyiv are without heating after the enemy attacked the capital on January 24. I would like to remind you that as a result of damage to critical infrastructure, almost 6,000 buildings in the capital were left without heat again yesterday. Most of them have already been connected or attempted to be connected to the heat supply twice after the shelling on January 9 and 20, the statement said.
On the night of January 24 to 25, 2026, Russian forces carried out a large-scale combined assault on Kyiv and other parts of Ukraine using missiles and attack drones, hitting energy, heating, and other civilian infrastructure amid freezing winter conditions.
According to Ukrainian officials, the attack involved hundreds of aerial weapons, including around 21 missiles and 375 drones, aimed primarily at Kyiv and the surrounding region. Ukrainian air defenses reportedly intercepted the majority of these targets.
The bombardment caused extensive damage to the city’s power grid, leaving more than 800,000 households in Kyiv without electricity and placing severe strain on the energy system. Many high-rise residential buildings were also left without heating after critical infrastructure was damaged.
Emergency services reported at least one person killed in Kyiv and dozens injured across the country as a result of the attack, with facilities such as apartment buildings and civilian infrastructure struck.
