Pakistan removed from FATF grey list on terror financing
22 October 2022 09:38
The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) removed Pakistan from the so-called "grey list" of countries suspected of financing terrorism.
Interfax reports citing FATF's assessment, Pakistan has "improved its effectiveness" in combating money laundering and terrorist financing, and has closed technical deficiencies as a result of the action plan.
Pakistan has been on FATF's monitoring list since 2018. The organisation worked with the government that year to develop a 27-point action plan to combat terrorist financing and another seven-point plan in 2021.
In September 2022, FATF sent a team of experts to Pakistan to verify the implementation of the plan. The current decision was taken as a result of the verification.
