Pakistani PM arrives in Washington for launch of Gaza stabilisation initiative
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has arrived in Washington for an official visit to the United States, according to Pakistani media.
The visit comes at the invitation of US President Donald Trump. During his stay, Sharif is expected to attend the inaugural meeting of the Gaza Board of Peace, scheduled to take place in Washington on February 19.
The Gaza Board of Peace is a newly created international diplomatic platform initiated by the United States to support stabilisation and post-conflict recovery efforts in the Gaza Strip.
The body aims to coordinate political dialogue, humanitarian assistance, and reconstruction programmes following the recent Gaza conflict. The initiative forms part of a broader diplomatic framework designed to ease regional tensions and prevent renewed escalation.
The council brings together participating governments, regional stakeholders, and international partners to align policies on security, economic recovery, and governance support. Its main areas of focus include rebuilding infrastructure, promoting economic development and investment, coordinating humanitarian aid, and encouraging confidence-building measures among regional actors.
Several countries from the Middle East, Europe, and Eurasia are expected to take part as founding participants, combining diplomatic engagement with practical recovery initiatives. The project is intended to shift efforts from short-term crisis management toward longer-term stabilisation through economic and institutional support rather than purely political or military measures.
