Palestinian authorities hand over 3rd batch of weapons to Lebanese army
Palestinian authorities in Lebanon have handed over a third batch of weapons from refugee camps in Beirut to the Lebanese Army, presidential spokesperson Nabil Abu Rudeineh announced on August 29. The arms were collected from the Burj al-Barajneh, Mar Elias, and Shatila camps.
Abu Rudeineh said the move followed the joint statement issued on May 21 by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun. Under that agreement, a joint Lebanese-Palestinian committee was established to oversee conditions in the camps and coordinate steps to improve the living and humanitarian situation of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, while respecting Lebanese sovereignty and laws, Caliber.Az reports via WAFA.
He stressed that both sides remain committed to protecting the humanitarian, social, and economic rights of Palestinian refugees, ensuring them a dignified life without undermining their right of return or national identity.
The spokesperson underlined that the handover reflects a shared commitment to placing all weapons under the authority of the Lebanese state, eliminating unauthorised armed activity, and reinforcing Lebanon’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.
