Paris, Damascus to launch joint committees for Syria’s post-war reconstruction
Paris and Damascus have agreed to set up expanded joint economic committees that will help support Syria’s post-war reconstruction efforts.
The agreement was reached following talks in Damascus between French President Emmanuel Macron and his Syrian counterpart, Ahmed al-Sharaa.
Macron said Paris is prepared to participate in investment projects in Syria, including in the energy and banking sectors, and to help attract Gulf states to the country’s reconstruction efforts.
Al-Sharaa, for his part, expressed hope that Syria’s strategic partnership with France would become a model for its relations with other countries.
According to the Syrian leader, the country is restoring its position in the region, modernising its maritime and air transport sectors, and implementing reforms in the banking system.
