The passenger traffic has been growing steadily at Azerbaijan’s Heydar Aliyev International Airport since early 2023.

The total passenger traffic of the airport increased by 25 per cent and reached more than 4.325 million people in January-September 2023 compared to 3.223 million passengers in the same period of 2022, the Heydar Aliyev International Airport's press service told Caliber.Az.

Some 58.6 per cent of passengers were transported to foreign countries by foreign air carriers. During the reporting period, these airlines transported more than 2.214 million passengers, which is an increase of 39 per cent compared to the corresponding period of last year. The rest passengers were transported by Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL).

During the reporting period, AZAL transported more than 1.5 million passengers flying international destinations and 549,000 passengers in the direction of Nakhchivan.

Most of the passengers - more than 746,000 people were transported from the airport to Istanbul and back during the reporting period. Istanbul is followed by Nakhchivan, Moscow, Dubai and Tbilisi.

“We continue expanding cooperation with foreign airlines operating flights to Azerbaijan for the comfort of our passengers. We are also trying to improve our services and infrastructure to provide them with a more efficient travel experience,” Director of the Heydar Aliyev International Airport Teymur Hasanov said.

Some 37 airlines made regular flights to the Heydar Aliyev International Airport to 70 destinations, 18 of them are low-cost airlines. The number of passengers reached 49 per cent compared to the total number of foreign airlines.
Most of the passengers were transported by Turkish Airlines, AnadoluJet, UTair, Aeroflot, and FlyDubai.
