Poland confirms NATO talks on expanding Nuclear Sharing programme
Poland has confirmed that discussions are underway within NATO between the United States and several European countries on the potential expansion of the alliance’s Nuclear Sharing programme, according to the country’s defence minister.
Speaking to broadcaster TVP Info, Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said the talks are being conducted at the NATO level and form part of broader efforts to strengthen nuclear deterrence capabilities across the alliance.
“At the NATO level, of course, [talks] are taking place. On June 18, a meeting of defence ministers will be held at the headquarters [of NATO] in Brussels, and one of the topics on its agenda will be the potential of nuclear deterrence,” he said.
Kosiniak-Kamysz declined to provide further details, citing the sensitivity of the issue.
“I do not want to say more about this, as it is a very sensitive topic. If there are any statements on it, they will only be final and at the NATO level, not speculation,” he added.
The issue is expected to be formally addressed at a meeting of NATO defence ministers scheduled for June 18 in Brussels, where strengthening the alliance’s nuclear deterrence posture will be among the items on the agenda.
