Poland doubts US envoy’s ability to lead Russia-Ukraine talks

02 December 2025 16:57

Polish President’s Office International Policy Bureau Head Marcin Przydacz voiced concerns over US President’s special envoy Steve Witkoff’s ability to lead peace negotiations with Russia on Ukraine.

In an interview on Radio Zet, he said that the US President’s special envoy Steve Witkoff lacks sufficient experience for high-stakes talks, including his planned meeting with Vladimir Putin, Caliber.Az reports.

“He is a businessman from the real estate sector who has never previously dealt with Russians,” Przydacz noted, adding that the Russian side conducts negotiations “very harshly” and often employs disinformation tactics.

He stressed that he places more trust in other members of the US administration, specifically Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who he said has a stronger understanding of Eastern European politics.

Przydacz also expressed confidence that Putin “will not be interested” in a peace agreement unless it fully aligns with his interests by 110%.

Earlier, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that “not everyone in Washington” wants Poland at the peace negotiation table and emphasised that Russia should not impose its terms on Ukraine and Europe.
