Poland maintains fuel price controls despite Middle East truce
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed that the government will keep the “low fuel prices” measures in place despite the ceasefire between the US and Iran.
“We will not abandon this mechanism as the market situation remains extremely tense,” Tusk said, noting that the truce could start affecting pump prices as early as April 10, according to Polish media.
Under the system, maximum fuel prices are set based on average wholesale rates plus taxes, fees, and a fixed margin, with VAT applied. Selling above the set limits can incur fines up to 1 million zlotys ($275,207).
The finance minister can adjust excise and VAT rates, ensuring some of the lowest fuel prices in the country, with the mechanism set to remain in effect for several weeks.
