Poland says US troop changes linked to broader EU strategy, does not concern Warsaw

14 May 2026 13:16

The US Army's decision to unexpectedly cancel a planned rotation of more than 4,000 troops from an armoured brigade to Poland does not concern Warsaw and is linked to a broader adjustment of the US military presence in Europe, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, Poland’s National Defence Minister, has stated.

A US Army spokesperson confirmed the change in plans but declined to provide further details, Caliber.Az reports, citing Polish media.

The Pentagon also refused to comment.

Military Times reported that part of the unit and equipment had already been deployed to Poland under the previously approved rotation.

The “Black Jack” brigade from Fort Hood was scheduled to begin a nine-month mission.

Around 10,000 U.S. troops are currently stationed in Poland on a rotational basis.

Deputy Defence Minister Cezary Tomczyk said the adjustments could concern Germany.

Experts note that the development does not necessarily indicate a reduction in US forces in Poland, but rather a reassessment of additional deployments and a redistribution of assets across Europe.
