Poland suspends operations at two airports amid Russian strikes on Ukraine

18 September 2026 10:32

Two airports in southeastern Poland suspended operations on the morning of September 18 as Russia launched attacks on neighbouring Ukraine, Polish authorities said.

The airports in Rzeszów and Lublin halted air traffic amid heightened security measures, according to the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency (PANSA), Caliber.Az reports.

The Polish Armed Forces also scrambled fighter jets in response to the Russian attacks.

Lieutenant Colonel Jacek Goriszewski, spokesperson for the Polish Armed Forces Operational Command, said a drone most likely crashed or was shot down about 4 kilometres from the Polish-Ukrainian border.

The measures came as Poland monitored potential threats to its airspace amid continued Russian strikes on Ukraine.
