Poland to deploy military contingent to NATO maritime task force
Polish President Karol Nawrocki has signed a decision authorising the deployment of a Polish military contingent to support a NATO task force operating in key maritime areas of Northern Europe and the Atlantic.
The decree, dated December 16, provides for the deployment of Polish forces to the Baltic, Norwegian and North Seas, as well as the Atlantic Ocean. The mission is scheduled to begin on January 1, 2026, and will run until August 15, 2026, Caliber.Az reports via Polish media.
The contingent will comprise up to 70 military personnel, supported by the necessary equipment and logistical resources. The operation aims to reinforce NATO allies and enhance the safety of maritime navigation along strategically important sea routes.
During the mission, Polish forces will carry out a range of tasks, including patrolling and clearing access routes to ports, narrow waterways and major shipping lanes of hazardous underwater objects. A particular focus will be placed on locating and neutralising sunken military munitions and arsenals dating back to the First and Second World Wars, which continue to pose risks to commercial and military shipping.
