Poland, UK to sign defence cooperation agreement on May 27
Poland and the United Kingdom will sign a cooperation agreement, primarily focused on defence, on May 27, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has announced.
Speaking after the European Political Community summit in Yerevan, Tusk said the decision had been finalised together with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Caliber.Az reports, citing Polish media.
According to him, this will be an agreement that will genuinely strengthen their cooperation, especially in the field of defence.
“We have been negotiating this agreement for a long time, but at present (…) it is very important to seek real partners with significant potential who are ready for sustained military cooperation and, more broadly, in the field of defence,” he said.
Tusk added that the United Kingdom is also interested in the agreement as a way to ensure reliable security and strengthen ties with the European Union, particularly against the backdrop of shifting public sentiment in the country, where a significant majority now regrets Brexit and supports closer relations with the EU.
