Polish defence chief says EU "egoism" could lead to collapse
Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski has warned that growing national self-interest among European Union member states could undermine the stability of the European Union, while also highlighting challenges posed by worsening transatlantic relations.
Writing on social media, Sikorski criticised what he described as excessive nationalism within the bloc, Caliber.Az reports.
“What will lead to the collapse of the EU? Unbridled national egoism. This is dangerous for Poland's security and development!” he said.

The remarks followed his annual foreign policy address to Poland’s lower house of parliament, where he focused on shifting geopolitical dynamics and Poland’s strategic position. Sikorski noted that relations between Europe and the United States have worsened, warning of potential consequences for regional security.
“Unfortunately, relations between the US and Europe have deteriorated,” he said.
Citing recent polling conducted at the end of January, Sikorski added that 54 per cent of Polish respondents said the United States was not a reliable ally, while only 35 per cent disagreed. “This poses a particular challenge for Poland,” he said.
Despite these concerns, the minister stressed that strengthening cooperation with Washington remains a key priority for Warsaw and reiterated Poland’s readiness to act as a regional hub for US military forces.
He emphasised the long-standing importance of transatlantic ties, stating: “The alliance and close ties with the United States have been a pillar of our foreign policy for decades – regardless of who sat in the White House, which party held the majority in Congress, or who governed Poland.”
