Polish Embassy warns: Protest ties, social media posts could block entry to Georgia

29 May 2025 16:28

The Polish Embassy has reported an increase in the number of foreign nationals, including citizens of European Union countries, being refused entry into Georgia.

The embassy urged travellers to be aware of the potential risks when planning their trips, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.

The embassy stated that Georgian border authorities are paying particular attention to individuals’ involvement in demonstrations, their presence near protest sites, as well as certain types of activity on social media platforms.

“The authorities of Georgia have the sovereign right to assess the risks associated with a foreign citizen’s entry into the country, and a decision to deny entry can be made even in relation to individuals holding valid Georgian residence permits,” the embassy noted.

The diplomatic mission also highlighted that foreign nationals may be subject to fines for participating in, or even for suspected participation in, protest actions. In such cases, individuals attempting to re-enter Georgia may be required to pay the imposed fines immediately upon arrival.
