Polish Navy to acquire unmanned maritime drones, PM says
The Polish Navy is set to enhance its maritime capabilities with the purchase of unmanned maritime drones, Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced during his visit to Gdańsk on May 22.
Speaking to reporters, Tusk confirmed that the government has decided to fast-track the procurement of the advanced unmanned systems, which are expected to support naval operations without the need for crewed vessels, Caliber.Az reports via Polish media.
“We have decided to immediately launch the implementation of the order of drones by the navy,” Tusk said.
The prime minister explained that these drones will be deployed in missions typically requiring manned ships, offering a cost-effective and technologically advanced alternative.
According to him, these sets will make it much cheaper than when special ships are required to successfully control what is being done underwater, overwater and on the water.
Tusk emphasised that the decision followed consultations and recommendations from military and defence experts. After hearing out the recommendations, Tusk said he gave the green light to realise the procurement of maritime drones.
