Politician: EU values Armenia, awaits its membership
The European Union (EU) is waiting for Armenia to receive the EU membership status, said Artak Zeynalyan, an Armenian political figure and one of the initiators of the EU integration bill.
Zeynalyan said the EU has numerously expressed its unambiguous stance regarding Armenia not only through words but also concrete legal documents, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
He cited the CEPA agreement between Armenia and the EU. “It [CEPA] is an integral part of Armenia’s legal system, one of the legal acts about us being awaited in the EU. We are welcome in the EU,” Zeynalyan said, emphasizing that Armenia is very valuable for the EU. “And the EU also needs Armenia, just like other unions.”
The Armenian parliament is debating the bill on EU accession.
The bill was initiated by several civic organizations through a petition which garnered enough votes to be considered as a bill. It calls on the Armenian authorities to launch the process of EU integration. The bill was previously endorsed by the Cabinet and a parliamentary committee.
