Politico: Malta delays EU's 18th sanctions package against Russia

Malta is currently blocking the adoption of the European Union’s 18th sanctions package against Russia, Politico reports.

According to the outlet, during a meeting of the EU’s Committee of Permanent Representatives on July 13, Malta raised objections to a proposal to cap prices on Russian energy resources at 15% below market value.

This development comes amid statements by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, who indicated his government could support the new sanctions package if the EU provides sufficient compensation for phasing out Russian gas.
