President: Czech Republic ready for troop deployment in Ukraine under peace agreement
Czech President Petr Pavel has confirmed that the Czech Republic is ready to join an international mission that could send troops to Ukraine, contingent upon a potential peace agreement in the region.
In an exclusive interview with European Pravda, Pavel discussed the security guarantees for Ukraine, noting that his country is already part of the so-called "Coalition of the Resolute," a group of nations committed to supporting Ukraine in its ongoing conflict with Russia, Caliber.Az reports.
When questioned about the Czech Republic's role in such a coalition, Pavel underscored that the country had already aligned itself with the coalition's objectives. Pavel also addressed domestic concerns regarding the Czech Republic's involvement in Ukraine.
Acknowledging that some politicians in his country harbor reservations about sending troops, the president emphasised that if a strong coalition of European nations is willing to provide Ukraine with security guarantees, the Czech Republic should be part of it. He further argued that supporting Ukraine was not just an act of solidarity, but a strategic move for the Czech Republic's own security.
Earlier, UK's Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated that the timeline for deploying peacekeepers in Ukraine has become clearer due to ongoing negotiations between Russia and the US.
Meanwhile, former US Army serviceman Mark Sleboda claimed that the plans of Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron to send peacekeepers to Ukraine could be aimed at sabotaging peace agreements.
