President: Moldova has no combat-ready army
President Maia Sandu has admitted that presently, Moldova actually does not have a combat-ready army, and this should be changed.
President Sandu made these remarks while delivering a speech on the 30th anniversary of the creation of the General Staff of the Moldovan National Army and the State Flag Day, European Pravda reports.
“The Moldovan army does not have military equipment for 30 years. We realize these consequences now,” President Sandu said during the ceremony.
The president acknowledged that Moldova does not have an effective shield against the threat, because it has not developed an adequate military potential and social resilience and has not created important infrastructure elements.
President Sandu added that the Moldovan military, participating in peacekeeping missions under the UN and the OSCE auspices, are professionals.
The president stressed that the country with a well-trained army is self-confident and has freedom of strategic choice, and Moldova must make every effort to create a professional modern army.
“This is an investment in the country’s security and defense. Now, when a war is waged at our borders, we understand this well,” the president stressed.
