Protests spark in Montenegro over decision to limit presidential power
Protesters in Montenegro blocked several highways near the cities of Cetinje, Mojkovac, and Niksic due to disagreement with the restriction of the powers of President Milo Djukanovic.
A group of citizens blocked traffic at the entrance to the cities in the afternoon, including the Budosh tunnel on the Niksic-Danilovgrad highway. They demanded the revocation of the law on the president and the appointment of a date for parliamentary elections, RTCG reports.
The deputies of Montenegro have previously approved changes in the law, limiting the president's power in giving a mandate to a candidate to form a government. Djukanovic refused to sign the first version of the document, which would force him to entrust the formation of the government to political opponent Miodrag Lekic.
