Pundit: Armenia-Azerbaijan escalations will continue if state border is not clearly delineated Caliber.Az analyst takes stage at OSCE conference in Warsaw
Azerbaijani political pundit, Caliber.Az analyst Orkhan Amashov has said escalations between Armenia and Azerbaijan will continue if the state border is not clearly delineated in accordance with a peace treaty.
“The Azerbaijani-Armenian state border has not been delimited; there is a large grey undelimited zone within the zone intersection of the two stages. My fundamental belief is that these escalations will continue if the state border is not clearly delineated in accordance with a peace treaty. More than that, these escalations will become more frequent if the impetus behind peace negotiations is slackened,” he said.
The remarks by Amashov came on October 4 at the Warsaw Human Dimension Conference Organized by the Polish OSCE Chairmanship-in-Office with the support of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), Caliber.Az exclusively reports.
“Today, sadly, we do not have peace in the South Caucasus. The region is replete with conflicts, but the main obstacle hindering overall development is the lack of peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, which fought a deadly war in 2020,” Amashov said. “The ceasefire was signed on November 10, 2020, but a peace treaty putting an end to all the conflicting points between Azerbaijan and Armenian has not yet been signed.”
He added that the absence of peace and security means the continuity of volatility and unpredictability undermined by an environment that biased evaluations, disinformation and sometimes “patently heinous lies”.
