Qatar arrests hundreds over spreading false information

Qatar’s Department for the Prevention of Economic and Cyber Crimes, part of the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation, has arrested 313 people of various nationalities, the country’s Ministry of Interior announced.

The arrests followed the filming and distribution of unauthorised videos about the situation in the Middle East, as well as the spreading of misleading information and rumours aimed at inciting public unrest, in violation of official directives, Caliber.Az reports per Qatari media.

Legal and administrative measures have been applied to those detained. The ministry stressed the importance of obtaining information only from official sources and warned that any similar violations will be strictly addressed.
