Qatar condemns attack on cargo vessel, calls for investigation

Qatar has condemned the targeting of a commercial cargo vessel earlier today, on May 10, in its territorial waters, Al Jazeera reports.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs considers this attack a flagrant violation of the principle of freedom of navigation and the provisions of international law, and a dangerous and unacceptable escalation that threatens the security and safety of commercial maritime passages and vital supplies in the region,” a statement read.

The ministry has called for an investigation into the incident to establish who is responsible.

The vessel had been en route from Abu Dhabi, and the attack sparked a minor fire on board without causing any injuries.
