Qatar confirms ongoing ceasefire negotiations in Gaza Strip
The Qatari Foreign Ministry has announced that Israel and Hamas continue discussions regarding a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
"Technical-level negotiations between the sides are still ongoing," spokesperson for the ministry Majid al-Ansari said, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
He clarified that no significant meetings are taking place at the moment. Various topics are being discussed, but he refrained from providing further details. At the end of last week, Hamas confirmed the resumption of indirect talks in Doha, while Israel acknowledged granting approval for negotiators to continue their discussions.
The previous round of consultations in December 2024 ended with mutual accusations from both sides of stalling the negotiations.
However, Qatari authorities expressed optimism about the possibility of a breakthrough during the meetings, particularly following the election of Donald Trump as the US president. On October 7, 2023, Hamas launched an attack on Israel. In response, the Israeli military initiated an operation against the group.
