Military attacks force Qatar Energy to suspend LNG production

Qatar Energy announced a suspension of liquefied natural gas production following military strikes on its facilities in the industrial cities of Ras Laffan and Mesaieed.

The company has ceased production of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and related products, according to Reuters.

Israeli and US military actions, followed by Iranian counterstrikes since February 28, forced precautionary closures of oil and gas infrastructure across the Middle East. 

The wave of attacks extended into a third day, halting most oil production in Iraqi Kurdistan and shutting down several key Israeli gas fields, sharply reducing exports to Egypt.

As a result, oil prices jumped 13% to over $82 a barrel, marking the highest level since January 2025, while the conflict brought shipping in the Strait of Hormuz—responsible for a fifth of global oil supply—close to a standstill.
