Qatar, Oman discuss security of Strait of Hormuz

24 June 2026 18:03

Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani met with Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi in Muscat to discuss bilateral relations and regional developments, including the security of the Strait of Hormuz.

The two sides reviewed cooperation between their countries and explored ways to strengthen ties, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Qatar News Agency.

They also discussed recent developments in the region, with particular attention to diplomatic efforts aimed at enhancing regional security and stability following the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran.

The ministers underscored the importance of ensuring the security and freedom of international navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and keeping it open to international maritime traffic without the imposition of any fees, in accordance with international law and the provisions of the memorandum of understanding.

They said this would safeguard the sovereign rights of the coastal states bordering the strait and the Gulf countries.

During the meeting, Al Thani reaffirmed Qatar's full support for the ongoing negotiations between the United States and Iran aimed at reaching lasting solutions to outstanding issues through dialogue and peaceful means, the agency reported.
