Qatar PM holds urgent calls over regional military escalation

Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, held phone conversations with the prime ministers of Malaysia, North Macedonia, and the Czech Republic, discussing the consequences of escalating military activity in the region.

The talks also explored possible ways to resolve conflicts through peaceful means, Caliber.Az reports via the foreign ministry.

Sheikh Al Thani stressed that Iran’s attack on Qatari territory constitutes a gross violation of national sovereignty and the principles of good neighbourliness. 

He noted that Qatar has consistently sought to distance itself from regional conflicts and facilitate dialogue between Iran and the international community, but the renewed shelling threatens the foundations of mutual understanding and bilateral relations.

The Qatari prime minister called for an immediate halt to escalation, a return to the negotiating table, and the prioritisation of reason and wisdom to contain the crisis and preserve regional security.

For their part, the leaders of Malaysia, North Macedonia, and the Czech Republic — Anwar Ibrahim, Hristijan Mickoski, and Andrej Babiš — expressed concern over developments in the region and supported calls for de-escalation and a diplomatic resolution to the conflict.
