Qatar says communication channel active to prevent Hormuz escalation
Qatar has established a dedicated communication channel to help prevent escalation in the Strait of Hormuz, and the mechanism is already operational, Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed bin Mohammed Al-Ansari has stated.
Speaking at a briefing, he said a communication channel has been created for these purposes [preventing conflicts], and it was used to contain the escalation that occurred over the past few days, Caliber.Az reports.
“This communication channel has been established and is operational," he noted.
He did not provide technical details about how the channel operates.
Al-Ansari also said Qatar is discussing with regional partners the possibility of launching a regional dialogue that would include Iran.
"We are working with our regional partners to reach a point where countries in the region, including Iran, find it appropriate to sit down at the negotiating table and openly discuss their concerns," he added.
