Qatar to attend Geneva signing ceremony for US-Iran agreement

16 June 2026 15:59

Qatar will participate in the signing ceremony of a planned agreement between the United States and Iran, scheduled to take place in Geneva on June 19, a senior Qatari official said.

Majid bin Mohammed al-Ansari, advisor to Qatar’s prime minister and official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed Doha's participation during a media briefingm, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media

“As for participation in the [signing ceremony] in Geneva, the State of Qatar will, of course, be represented at this meeting alongside other countries in the region,” al-Ansari said.

The diplomat also highlighted Qatar's recent diplomatic efforts aimed at facilitating dialogue between Washington and Tehran. He noted that during contacts involving the United States and Iran in Islamabad, Doha focused on supporting mediation efforts led by Pakistan.

According to al-Ansari, the primary objective of these efforts was to help the parties reach a mutual understanding that would enable a ceasefire and ensure the restoration of normal maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy shipping route.

On June 14, officials from the United States, Iran and Pakistan confirmed that an agreement had been reached on a 60-day ceasefire between Washington and Tehran. The accord is expected to be formally signed in Geneva on June 19.
