QUAD launches programme to bolster energy security in Indo-Pacific
The United States, India, Japan and Australia have launched a major initiative to strengthen energy security, maritime surveillance and critical mineral supply chains in the Indo-Pacific region.
The QUAD has announced the new programme aimed at reinforcing regional energy resilience, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
“Finally, on energy and fuel security, we will be announcing the QUAD initiative on Indo-Pacific energy security that will help strengthen regional energy resilience,” US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said.
The countries also plan to launch a joint maritime surveillance programme designed to monitor commercial shipping and enable real-time data sharing. Rubio noted that around 60% of global maritime trade passes through the region.
In addition, Quad members agreed on a framework for critical minerals, which Rubio said would guide the four countries in coordinating investment and economic policy to strengthen strategic supply chains.
