Romanian president warns of political crisis over possible PM resignation
Romanian President Nicușor Dan has expressed hope that the country’s pro-Western governing coalition will remain in power despite an escalating crisis, warning of potential “political turmoil” if it collapses.
The remarks come amid reports that the coalition’s largest party, the Social Democrats, is considering whether to push for the resignation of Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, according to Romanian media.
The president stressed that he expects the coalition to reach a compromise to preserve the current government.
“Probably we are facing political turmoil... I still hope we can find a formula to continue Romania’s pro-Western government, and that it will be a stable one,” Dan said.
He also noted that he is ready to hold consultations with political parties if necessary.
According to him, positions among political actors remain rigid, but it is still unclear whether a mutual agreement can be reached to overcome the divisions.
