Rubio: US to no longer join int'l deals "undermining national interests"
The United States will no longer participate in international agreements and initiatives that undermine the country’s national interests, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in a post on X, particularly referring to Washington’s withdrawal from the Paris Agreement on climate change.
“On Day One, President of the United States withdrew from the one-sided Paris Climate Agreement which raises prices, hinders economic growth, and weakens our national security,” Caliber.Az quotes him as saying in the post.
Rubio emphasised: “The U.S. will no longer be a part of international agreements and initiatives that undermine our national interests. Promises Made, Promises Kept!”
For the record, the Paris Agreement was adopted on December 12, 2015, following the 21st UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Paris. During Donald Trump’s first term as president, the United States officially withdrew from the agreement on November 4, 2019. During his second term, Trump again signed an executive order withdrawing the country from the Paris Agreement on climate change.
